Chelsea and East Chelsea Youth Club - Knife bin project
This project aimed to educate and challenge young people’s views on knife crime. As well as educate them about graffiti crime as this is a constant problem in the borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
The project involved decorating knife bins in the area using spraypaint. Working from designs created by the young people from Chelsea and East Chelsea youth clubs.
After hours of design work and brain storming there were some really clever designs produced, using slogans such as “don’t take a life, bin that knife”
Overall there were five bins painted- Worlds End estate, Earls Court, East Chelsea youth club, Chelsea Police Station and Goldbourne.
Keep your eyes peeled if you are in the area they look great!
Concorde Centre - Homerton
We visited the Concorde centre, Homerton in December 2007 where we delivered a five-week course; Students expressed themselves through drawings and design work which led to the front of their centre being painted stating the name of the group and characters around the lettering.
Although it was freezing cold most (who were brave enough to face the cold) showed persistence in the completion of the “stepping up youth” mural. Good job Homerton.
Dragon Hall - Covent Garden
Cancontrol Team visited the young people of Dragon hall, Covent Garden delivering an eight-week workshop. After an induction into the history of the art form, spraying techniques and safety requirements. Students then showed extreme capabilities in producing quality canvas designs that they then took home with them. The girls showing more dedication than the boys which was a first, girls don’t tell the boys!!

Thanks to Helen Baxter, with out your help we would have never got to where we wanted to go.
Roundwood Centre - Harlesden
One of the first jobs for 2008, and what a pleasure it is. I have never met such a hospitable and good-hearted group of kids. They even helped me clear up at the end of the class!
Everyone showed great enthusiasm and produced good canvases and clothing designs. This led to us completing a mural on the back wall of their centre.
